Make-to-Stock

With make-to-stock environments, items are typically produced according to a master production schedule often driven by a sales forecast. With a full stock of finished products or assemblies in anticipation of sales, being able to accommodate short lead times simply means that production is repetitive from one order to the next. With this type of environment is it important to effectively manage stocking constraints and lead times so on time delivery is not an issue. Management focuses on inventory values, turns and obsolete inventory.

Consider the following key areas and issues:

  • Inventory - keeping stock on hand in advance of receiving sales order; manage to stocking constraints, min, max, order quantity multiples and reorder points; ability to analyze stocking constraints vs. activity; perpetual inventory management is critical; correct on hand values and costs are imperative to making smart decisions; cycle count support to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Planning & Purchasing - planning driven by forecast for final assembly and stocking constraints for lower level items; visibility to supply and demand; need to be able to integrate multiple demand and supply forecast with material planning; need to be able to quickly action supply shortfalls into purchase requisitions and production orders.
  • Production - produce to replenish stock; cost variance analysis of costs over time and multiple jobs for same item; closing completed units into inventory before entire job is complete; ensuring cost adjustments flow through to inventory and cost of goods sold.
  • Scheduling - comparison of scenarios; minimizing the amount of over time required to complete jobs on time; minimizing the number of change-overs; visibility to late order.
  • Quoting and Sales - accurate cost, price and delivery; quantity price breaks and special pricing; customer relationship; manage blanket orders and a release schedule against the blanket order; take orders via the web.
  • Shipping – need to plan shipments by date, shipping locations, carriers, etc.

Our team can guide you through the process of using the tools for managing inventory, orders, production and shipments including stocking constraints, period analysis tools and multiple forecasts in planning and scheduling to ensure that finished goods levels are maintained to ensure your MTS orders are fulfilled on time and on budget.

"Often times manufacturing developers have never worked in a manufacturing environment and don't think of the things we need. INDUSTRIOS has thought of everything we ever needed and even some things we hadn't."
